Reducing our environmental impact
At Kingcome Sofas we are passionate about reducing the impact our furniture production has on the environment.
We are proud to have recently been awarded a carbon reduction certificate for our use of Polyair™, a 100% recyclable, carbon neutral film material used for packing all our furniture.
We continually strive to source the latest packaging solutions and our team were dissatisfied with the environmental impact of using polythene. By choosing to use Polyair™ the Carbon Dioxide (CO2) produced by Kingcome during this packaging process has been reduced from 3560 kilos to zero.
“Polyair™ is made from sugar cane waste, and it’s the process of photosynthesis as the plant grows that makes this product carbon neutral and the raw material remain 100% recyclable. The sugar cane actively captures CO2 from the atmosphere, while at the same time releasing oxygen – making this material not just green, but proactively green.”
Recycling is another vitally important effort in reducing the impact individual businesses make. We return our foam offcuts to the manufacturer for recycling; these are turned into firm ‘chip foam’ products for alternative uses such as gym equipment, crash mats, sound insulation and seating.
Every Kingcome staff member contributes to this commitment on a daily basis by ceasing the use of single use plastics in the workshop for staff food and drinks – we believe that many small actions can have a large impact.
As a furniture maker using timber, we are aware of the impact that forestry can have on the environment. Independent certification of forests and the production chain provides assurance that the timbers we use come from well managed and legal sources. We take care to ensure that our timber comes from certified sources, our suppliers having chain of custody certification for both the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC).
