Made in England
At Kingcome Sofas we take great pride in our furniture being genuinely Made in England.
Our sofas and chairs are made from start to finish in our Devon workshop by our team of experienced and highly skilled craftspeople; many of whom have been part of Kingcome Sofas for decades.
Our workshop is near the small town of Bovey Tracey in Devon. Bovey Tracey was historically a base for pottery making, using clay from the Bovey basin from the early 18th century for around 200 years. Only 15 miles away is the historic market town of Totnes, where Kingcome Sofas started life in a coach house hayloft in 1971 by Brian and Lesley Kingcome.
The design process starts here, from original drawings and templates created by our skilled designers. Timber components are machined in our mill, before being individually assembled in our frame workshop. Wood turning of legs in many different styles is carried out in house on our own lathes, before the legs are then finished and polished to your specifications.
Completed frames are now sprung and padded, ready for the upholstery process.
Fabrics are hand cut by our talented and creative cutters, who have a very good eye for pattern placement. Our discerning upholsterers then work in conjunction with our sewing machinists to create our beautiful furniture.
Visits to our Devon workshop are very welcome by appointment.
